<video:title>SwRI provides technical guidance for the Shell Eco-marathon</video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[A multidisciplinary team from SwRI provides technical guidance and expertise for the Shell Eco-marathon each year. For the Americas 2025 competition, student engineers designed and built ultra energy-efficient cars to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. Along with advancing innovation, students test drove their low-carbon technologies to see how they compared to other student-built vehicles. Dan Engstrom, a senior research engineer at SwRI, shares why he and his colleagues enjoy volunteering for the annual competition. Vice President of Intelligent Systems Steve Dellenback and Vice President of Fuels and Lubricants Steve Marty explain why the event is such a great tool for reaching the next generation of engineers.

<video:title>Molecular Literacy for Ages 8 to 108 | Dr. Colleen Kelley | TEDxGrandCanyonUniversity</video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Why do so many students fear chemistry, and what if we could change that by teaching it like we teach reading? In this fun and story-rich talk, Dr. Colleen Kelley shares how “Molecular Literacy” can revolutionize how we learn and teach science, starting as early as third grade. With comic book characters, games, and songs, she shows that chemistry isn’t just a subject... it’s the shared language of everything. Dr. Colleen Kelley is a retired chemistry professor turned storyteller and the creator of a comic book series designed to make chemistry fun, relatable, and unforgettable for kids and learners of all ages. With over 25 years of experience in chemical education, her mission is to build Molecular Literacy—a foundation of chemistry understanding for everyone, starting young.

As the founder of a curriculum that blends science with imagination, Dr. Kelley believes chemistry should be as engaging as storytime. Whether through animated characters like Poppi and Ray or songs about Sweet Calcium, her approach bridges science and play to foster curiosity, confidence, and connection in the next generation of learners. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx]]></video:description>

<video:title>What Mars Rocks Are Telling Us About Ancient Life | Texas A&M Research On Jezero Crater</video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Could Mars have once supported life? Texas A&M University geobiologist Dr. Mike Tice is helping answer one of science’s most profound questions by analyzing volcanic rocks collected from the Jezero Crater by NASA’s Perseverance rover. This crater — once a lake — now serves as a planetary archive, and the rocks at its base are revealing Mars' volcanic and hydrological history.

Dr. Tice, a faculty member in the Department of Geology and Geophysics in the College of Arts and Sciences, shares new insights from a groundbreaking study published in Science Advances. His research reveals how volcanic rock and ancient groundwater systems might have once created the right conditions for life on the Red Planet.

Using advanced tools like PIXL (Planetary Instrument for X-ray Lithochemistry), researchers identified multiple lava flows and mineral compositions that not only reshape our understanding of Mars' geological past — but also inform NASA’s future Mars Sample Return mission and potential crewed missions.

🔬 Learn how this research ties into real-world readiness and purposeful impact — as we explore space science at its highest level.

📍 Location: Jezero Crater, Mars (via NASA’s Perseverance Rover)

<video:title>Bessie Coleman: The Centennial of a Pioneering Pilot</video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[100 years ago Bessie Coleman became the first African American woman to earn her pilot’s license. In the 1920s she toured the U.S. as a barnstormer, entertaining crowds with her aerial aerobatics and inspiring contemporaries with her boundless determination to fly despite significant racial and gender prejudice. A champion of other early aviators, she planned to open a flight school for African Americans, a dream unfulfilled due to her untimely death in 1926.

Coleman has been an inspiration and role model to generations of pilots and an enduring symbol of perseverance. Join us for a panel discussion celebrating Coleman’s centennial achievement, boundary-breaking life, and lasting legacy.

Ellen Stofan, the Smithsonian’s Undersecretary for Science and Research, will moderate a panel discussion featuring:

- Lonnie Bunch, Secretary of the Smithsonian
- Philip Hart, author, educator, filmmaker, and descendent of early aviator James Herman Banning
- Carole Hopson, pilot and author

<video:title>Automated Self-Driving Shuttle on SwRI Campus</video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Southwest Research Institute has developed and deployed an automated shuttle to be used for tours of its 1,500-acree campus in San Antonio. The 14-passenger low-speed vehicle (LSV) features artificial intelligence to classify vulnerable road users, vehicles, roadway signs and other objects. While the autonomous shuttle navigates pre-programmed campus routes autonomously, a human driver is always behind the steering wheel for added safety. The self-driving shuttle can also be used to support applied research of software, sensors and systems in connected and automated vehicles.
