Program Manager, STEM K-12 Outreach Programs (2009-2013)
• Organized AIAA signature programs, AIAA Educator Academy and Engineers as Educators to engage connect the technical aspects of aerospace to classroom applications of STEM.


• Guided 66 local AIAA sections to create programs to engage the next generation of aerospace professionals, with various levels of section effort.

o Recruited volunteers to answer educator and student questions.
o Developed booth presence at local events.
o Created workforce development panels to attract students (K-12 through university) interest in aerospace industry.

• Grew Educator Associate membership program by 80%, restructuring membership benefits for educators and instituting better access to AIAA technical members, grant funding, professional development opportunities and resources to stimulate interest in the aerospace field.

• Directed AIAA Foundation Classroom Grant program, which awarded over $200,000 in classroom grants to educators for hands-on math and science activities. Interacted with educators to ensure grant success, maintained database of grants awarded and promoted good grants as "best practices" to other educators.

• Administered the AIAA Foundation Educator Achievement Award, recognizing excellence in K-12 education. Biennially, 7 educators were brought to Washington, DC to be recognized by the aerospace industry. By working with corporate partners, provided "behind the scenes" unique opportunities, to inspire them to motivate their students to connect science and math in the classroom to real-world experiences.

Precollege Program Manager/Student Conferences (1998-2009)
World Space Congress

• Developed 7 discreet educational programs associated with the World Space Congress, the world’s largest gathering of space professionals. Over 10,000 students, educators and young professionals from more than 30 countries participated in the events, staffed by over 400 volunteers.

• Managed a 25-person volunteer committee located in various parts of the United States and Europe, and raised over $263,000 in sponsor and donor funds to support the events, culminating in the Space Rocks Kids Festival which drew over 7,000 attendees to a STEM Festival with over 50 exhibits and demonstrations.

Education Alley

• Created Education Alley, and interactive K-12 exhibit co located with the AIAA Space Conferences, as follow-on activity to World Space Congress. Over 12,000 students and teachers
Attended event over its eleven-year history. Follow-on activities created by AIAA volunteers.

Regional Student Conferences

• Managed seven Regional Student Conferences, attracting 600 domestic and international university level students, with budget of over $150,000.

Membership Activities Liaison, Education

Conceived and implemented the AIAA Hurricane Katrina Members Helping Members Campaign, which donated $100,000 to teachers in the Gulf Coast. Coordinated volunteer efforts to review over 250 grants affecting over 32,000 students. AIAA was recognized by the ASAE with the Award of Excellence in their Volunteers Across America program.
