Featured Educator of the Month(Feb 2025) - Tracy Thomas
Tracy Thomas
Tracy is the Principles of Applied Engineering instructor for Space and Engineering Technologies Academy Middle School in North East ISD in San Antonio, Texas. This is her 21st year with Krueger and the KSAT/SETA program. She previously taught elementary science and math in Judson ISD for 4 years. However, wanting to teach a more advanced student, Tracy obtained her middle school science certificate in 2004 and taught 6th grade science and rocketry for the first four years at KSAT. She moved to 8th grade at KSAT in 2008 and taught high powered rocketry skills to her classes. In 2015, she obtained her Technology Education certification for grades 6-12 which allows her to teach a high school credit course.
Having grown up right across the street from NASA-Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tracy has had a long-standing interest in the field of aerospace science. She works closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Association of Rocketry to ensure safety at the numerous rocket launches throughout the year. She obtained her level 1 (2007) and level 2 (2014) certification in rocketry from the National Association of Rocketry
She is the coach for the Krueger Science UIL team, a mentor/supervisor for The American Rocketry Challenge, and a mentor/supervisor for Student Launch/Student Engineer projects. Her students have worked on numerous successful projects with NASA over the last 15 years. She has presented at the Challenger Learning Center's Annual Conference in Houston and at the Space Exploration Educators Conference at NASA - Johnson Space Center twice (2009 and 2025).
In the community, Tracy serves on the K-12 Advisory Board for SA Smart: The Mayor’s K-12 Smart City Challenge since 2020. She also serves as the Chair of the Teacher Advisory Council for Dee Howard International Education Foundation since 2022.
